This is an instant favourite for me now that I have at last watched it. Great performances, clean humour and fun to watch.

Apparently this inspired Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer.

Hey folks! I was out having dinner with my girlfriend this evening and happened across a newly opened Asian movie/music shop. It was mostly bootlegs, but to my great delight I was able to track down a couple of rare Yuen Biao films: The Champions and Picture of a Nymph!

These movies have eluded me for some time and I'm so happy that I've been able to finally track them down. So I wonder fellow board members, what rare movie(s) do you have in your film collection?

Again, to bring up Above the Law I was watching the fight between Cynthia Rothrock and Karen Shepherd.

A lot of people rave about this scene, which probably is the pinnacle of Cynthia's martial arts movie career. (Personally, I don't find it that impressive).

Anyway, I recall reading that this was the only time that Karen Shepherd made a movie in HK, and now after watching this scene again I can sort of understand why.

Perhaps up to 70% of the fight scene wasn't Karen at all but ...

I guess this topic sort of follows on from the wuxia thread. Everyone has their tastes in movies right down to the genre.

Given that quite a few of us like martial arts, I think it would be fair to say that some of us prefer shapes to wuxia, or wuxia to wire-fu. Now's your chance to speak up!

I hope the choices are clear. Multiple choices!

Wuxia - not for Westerners?

I recently read something online (don't remember where) that said Westerners, in general, do not enjoy the wuxia genre because the blend of fantasy and reality feels unrealistic and unbelievable. This is apparently why relatively few wuxia novels are translated into English. I really don't get it. I was raised up on Western fare and I LOVE wuxia!

I also feel that the notion that Westerners are uncomfortable with the blend is fundamentally incorrect because wuxia has many immediate correlations ...

Hey Guys! Some advice...

Donnie Yen's Ip Man is available on Blu-Ray. I'm considering buying it, but it's not cheap like a DvD, it's close to $30! I just want to ask if anyone has seen it and is it as good as they say? Lots of Wing Chun style action?

Sounds like it would be incredible in HI-Def.

While on the subject of great Shaws movies and those starring the Venoms, there has to be room for this.

Again, I didn't know this has been reprinted, the copy I have is the dubbed version, but it still kicks it.

One of the best performances from Lo Meng IMHO, and Phillip Kwok does some excellent acrobatics all the way through the movie.

The absolute favourite moment in the film for me is when Lo Meng's character Golden Arm first turns up after Brass Head (Yang Hsuing) is ...
