I forgot to ask you DM what's happening with the computer situation? Or is it a network problem?

| That's pretty irritating alright. Hope its not something too insidious like malware. | |

Excuse my ignorance....... but what is "malware" ?
Maybe I'd be better off not knowing, but I'm pretty much prepared for the worse?

Maybe I'd be better off not knowing, but I'm pretty much prepared for the worse? Hey, DM! What you describe sounds like a bit of malware to me. It can also be a "DNS Poisoning" virus (the fact that it happens on seperate browsers sounds like the problem lies in their "common" factor, which could be DNS host file corruption). Check in your progress bar (usually at the bottom of IE). IF the web address has two extensions (example: opening amazon.com.com), it is indeed a malware/virus situation.

| Dashiell is a "PC Doctor", he cannot solve it from here, but gives you valuable advises. | |

| Wow! There's a Doctor in the house! Well, PC doctor in the forum.
I now know where to go when I need help!
DM: I had a malware probably before and just wrote down the 'symptoms' and did an online search to find out how to fix it. It was easy enough in my case. You may be able to simply download a malware scanner at work and smite the nasty bugger.

| I'll speak to the guy coming to take a look at my PC. He may have something I can download to fix it. | |

| Yes, if you have a guy coming let me know what he thinks. I could recommend a bunch of things to download, but it usually takes a good analysis of the PC itself to know what actions to take.
@DM: Do you have a virus scanner installed?

| I'm still here.
My PC is still playing up, and I have tried all sorts. Two different people have checked my system and can't find anything wrong. I've even downloaded a tool from Microsoft that after running and cleansing tells me my PC is "good". It may be my internet provider is at fault after everything I've been through as I have spoken to a few people at work who have also been having problems even though their connection is supposed to be good. I'm looking to change at my first oportunity.

| I guess one thing that could be worth trying would be to take your computer to another person's place and hook up to the internet there to see if there is any difference.
Oh and Danshiell - I think I've got some computer problems too! Well, I should say my girlfriend's laptop isn't very happy. Occasionally it just refuses to come on - you hit the power button but the screen doesn't light up. I thought originally it was a power supply problem as I've heard that's pretty common, but now I'm starting to think it's to do with the internal connection. Any ideas?
Oh...and hi everyone! | |
