Hey Guys! Some advice...

Donnie Yen's Ip Man is available on Blu-Ray. I'm considering buying it, but it's not cheap like a DvD, it's close to $30! I just want to ask if anyone has seen it and is it as good as they say? Lots of Wing Chun style action?

Sounds like it would be incredible in HI-Def.

Well...after the last few weeks of procrastinating, I may actually watch Ip Man this weekend. It's hard to believe that one of the most hyped martial arts movies made in recent times is actually awaiting to be watched by me and yet it's right within my grasp...Mind you there's a stack of other movies I just haven't had the time to get around to watching.

Anyone heard much about the sequel? Sammo will play Donnie's rival as a master of another school - I'm a bit hesitant now knowing that they're going to follow up such a successful movie with an albeit successful, but clichéd plot. I'm even more worried about the third installment they've planned; supposedly where Bruce Lee's character is introduced to the screen. Well, they are millking it good.

Just out of interest Danshiell, where are you getting the blu-ray disc from?

It's just that I bought a copy of 'House of Fury' which was labelled as blu-ray and it certainly was not. Well, I didn't expect it to be so, seeing it was from a dodgy shop.

I've been using dddhouse.com since early '06 and have found them reputable and with great service. The parcels come wrapped tightly "old school" style as well.

I did order the blu-ray. We'll see how it goes in the next week or two.

Wha-hey!

Finally watched Ip Man so I may actually be able to make some useful feedback!

I'll make a more exhaustive summary of the movie in the usual recently watched movie thread but just quickly and overall.

Ip Man does feature some incredibly crisp, hard-hitting action that harks back to the 90s hey-day of HK action cinema. Sammo once again showcases why he's one of the big names in the business and Donnie's ability certainly shines through (despite having a buggered shoulder for most of the shoot).

I'd say the movie's action is similar to...hmm, let's see...Fearless in terms of style but it's clearly Sammo's work, so you definitely feel like you're watching The Victim or something to that effect.

As for whether it deserves being watched on blu-ray...well, everything looks better in blu-ray, but I'm not sure if this movie really warrants the extra spend. No SFX and little sound FX (or even a soundtrack for that matter) mean that it's not exactly a visual thrill ride like a sci-fi.

Anyway, you'd probably still love the movie! I'll review it very soon.
